If I Were A Freshman Again E-mail
It’s an unbelievable feeling. You’re excited, nervous, awkward, shy, and overwhelmed all at once, and rightfully so. Awesome, be excited. Starting college is something special. There is literally a sea of opportunity ahead. Not to get too cheesy of course. I’ve been there. I remember my first day of college, moving into my rinky-dink dorm room. It was tiny I didn’t care. I was free. I was ready for school. I was ready for intramurals. I was ready for the Rodeo Team. I was ready for anything. I had no parents to worry about. No curfew. No girlfriend. No faith of my own. No prayer life. Not a thought about my purpose for God. Ahhh….. this is the life. Wait?!? Huh!?!
Reality is that college is an awesome time. But if I could change anything about me then, I’d find my own faith and find God’s work. You see I loved God, but I had no idea how to get to him, how to talk to him, how to work for him, none of these. I had become a comfortable Christian. So what did I do… I fell on my face. Hard. Totally Biffed. And there I sat, one and a half semesters in and wondering “who in the world am I?” I can’t tell you enough, build a relationship with God. He longs for it more than anything, and you’ll find that you long for it too.

God has totally blessed me since then. I get to see God do amazing things everyday. College is, by itself, one of the biggest mission fields ever. Something like 80% of people become Christians between 18 and 21. DO GOD’S WORK!!! There’s too much to be done, and he needs you. If you just said to yourself “I’m too young, I’m just a college kid”….

1 Timothy 4:12-14 says “12Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. 14Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.”

So how do you go through college working for God? Changing lives? Being totally Blessed? Seeing God’s hands? Love him. Love him with your heart, not your head. The things he wants to give you will be yours. The amazing life story you want to tell, yours. The true love, yours. I guarantee this, you will see God, and your life will be so much more satisfying it is unreal.

1 Peter 4:11 says “If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

In Him,
